Integrative East Asian Medicine

  • Cupping

Cupping is a therapy where a clean glass or plastic cup is applied to the skin with suction. The cups can be left stationary in one place or gently moved on lubricated skin for a massage that stretches the muscle tissue away from the body in addition to pressing in or stretching up and down.

  • Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a manual therapy where a tool is used to stroke the skin. It can be used alongside acupuncture or by itself. The procedure is used to address pain, skin issues, colds/flu, and other issues. Gua Sha can also be used as a self-care treatment one can do at home.

  • Warming therapy

Warming therapy can include the burning of a Chinese herb called mugwort (artemisiae argyi folium) directly on or indirectly over the skin. This is called moxibustion, or moxa for short, and is am important component of acupuncture therapy. Moxa warms the skin to aid circulation, reduces pain and cold sensations, and supports the body’s metabolism.

  • Dietary therapy

Food is medicine, and it is no surprise that East Asian Medicine uses food as a primary therapy to support healing. We focus on optimizing digestion to benefit your overall health and wellness. After all, if one cannot absorb nutrients from their food and generate the resources needed, health and wellness may be further delayed or difficult to maintain.

  • Lifestyle education

Sometimes the activities in our daily lives may be contributing to or worsening our health issues. We use research, education, and easy to incorporate modifications to help support you. Sweeping changes of multiple practices are likely not going to generate lasting results. We work with each person individually and offer focused recommendations that may be effectively integrated into daily life.

  • Chinese herbs and medicinals

As a formally trained herbalist in the US and China, Dr. Lee is board certified and uses Chinese herbs safely and appropriately. We primarily use granules or liquid herbal extracts but can also provide raw, whole herbal formulae for you to cook at home. We are also committed to using herbal medicinals that are ethically and responsibly sourced whenever possible.

East Asian Medicine can be safely integrated alongside conventional medicine.
